James Farrugia and Leonard Bonello at MFSA’s Workshop on Virtual Financial Assets

The MFSA and the CFTC are collaborating to hold a 3 day workshop entitled Virtual Assets: the emergence of a new asset class. Being held between the 9th and 11th September 2019, the workshop is focusing on virtual asset financial crime, the new FATF recommendations, supervisory challenges brought about by virtual assets and the growing importance of international cooperation in this sector.

James Farrugia, Partner within the Investment Services and Funds practice at GANADO Advocates, spoke on the first day of the workshop, where he delivered a presentation about Malta’s virtual assets framework and later took part in a panel discussion comparing Malta’s laws with other jurisdictions.

On the second day of the workshop, Leonard Bonello, Partner within GANADO Advocates’ Banking and Finance practice, moderated a panel which discussed the Application of Freezing and Confiscation Orders.
