Participation at a Debate Organised by ELSA Published on December 15, 2015 Dr Stephan Piazza, Advocate within GANADO Advocates’ Shipping team, acted as a moderator to the debate on ‘Combatting Piracy and Upholding Human Rights Law’, that was held on the 10th of December at the National Library in Valletta. Organised in occasion of the launch of the 5th edition of the ELSA Malta Review, the debate saw the intervention of local lawyers within the shipping arena. The panellists discussed the recent evolvements of piracy within the west coast of Africa. The discussion also revolved around the effectiveness of private maritime security companies as a deterrent to piracy, their presence and regulation in the Maltese market and key issues still to be addressed both at a national and international level, such as the need of uniform and consistent regulations.
