Internal Governance considerations for credit institutions: the EBA report on the 2019 supervisory convergence plan

It comes as no surprise that internal governance was one of the key topics for supervisory attention identified by the European Banking Authority (“EBA”) in its 2019 convergence plan[1]. In recent years, internal governance frameworks and institution wide controls have been high on the agenda of authorities and regulators worldwide. It is widely agreed that inexistent, weak or superficial internal governance can lead to a general lack of growth, financial difficulties, prejudice to the company and its stakeholders and loss of investors’ confidence.
